AP 1.How did you hear about the role for
Rini/Mini Moon? I read that the voice director for the seasons
you were in, spoke only French - do you speak French?
SBB: For about a year and a half I was a host on a morning show in
Toronto. My unique little voice started to get lots of attention and
soon there was interest from voice agents floating in. Before I had
even signed with them, my agency sent me to the Sailor audition... my
first voice audition ever! I was nervous, had no idea how to dub a
voice (it's much more complicated than just a regular voice job). I
did my best and left with tears in my eyes feeling like I did an awful
job! A few days later I got the call that they wanted me for the
role.. I signed with the agency soon after :)
Yes, my director Nicole... she was an incredible woman. She spoke more
than enough english to get direction across and my 4 years in french
immersion came in handy :)
AP. Wired Al has made a lucrative career out
of parody songs, have you ever though of doing another "The Real
SugaBayBee" type parody?
SBB: I think about it all the time. That was so long ago now, way back in
1999, that I recorded the song. "Crazy!" It was a great
success and I would love to see if I could out do myself! Any
suggestions? :)
AP. What was your reaction, when you were
asked to be the opening act for Destiny's Child? Were you
nervous about opening?
SBB:
It was their first Canadian concert if you can believe it... I was
nervous, not really about opening for them, just about performing the
song. I knew the song with no problems, but the choreography was
crazy. I'm the furthest thing from a professional dancer so trying to
get any moves down was, well impossible. I would do it again in
a second though.
AP. Describe an average day in the life of
Sug?
SBB: That's so hard to do. Everyday is so different. My schedule
allows me to have an amazingly scrambled life. YTV days are long and
wonderful... at the office by 9 am to get the show prepared, handle
politics, make props - whatever that day's shoot calls for. A
never fail, very fun lunch hour with my favorite people (Carlos, Simon
& producers Lisa and Buttery). Then straight to make-up for a relaxing
40 minutes of pampering with Debb. Then straight to studio where
we shoot the Zone. After that, I hopefully have an audition or two. Have something delicious for dinner then get home around 9pm
to get
ready and find myself at a Toronto party at night. Busy huh? :)
Some of my favorite days, are the ones where I spend my time
behind a microphone lending my voice to a character or sitting at home
reading a script.
AP. Out of all the characters you have voiced,
which one can you relate to the most?
SBB: I think my character Kara on Di Gata Defenders. She's the
youngest in the talented crew of teenagers and she's definatly the
tiniest, but she believes she's just as tuff as the rest of them and
eventually proves she's tougher. I love her :)
AP. What current projects are you
working on?
SBB:
Di Gata Defenders, Spider Riders, Captain Flamingo, and Harry and his
Bucket full of Dinosaurs to name a few.
AP. Being in your twenties with such a high
voice, what kind of things have you encounter?
SBB: I can honestly say I've been received well my whole life, so my
voice has never been a hindrance only a blessing. All the things I
have encountered have been positive, radio, work, voice work... so I
guess my answer is I've encountered blessings.
AP. Right now, what music would we find in your
MP3 or CD player?
SBB:
I'm listening to the New Jay-Z album, From Kingdom Come. I listen to
it everyday in my car.
AP Who are your role models, personally and professionally?
SBB: I have so many - Professionally: Director Little X, Natalie
Portman, Garry Marshall, King Solomon.
Personally: My family.
AP. Tell us something about Sag, which you would
like your fans to know?
SBB: I
want you all to know, I am so thankful for all I have and I don't know why I
deserve the treasure of even having fans! I love you, you are a gift
and I am grateful.
