Ten Questions Interview

AP 1.Tell us….how did you get into voice acting and what advise would you give someone trying to get into the business?

CP: I got into voice acting pretty much the same way I've gotten into most other acting jobs... which is to say it's usually a combination of making a connection and landing an audition. Many years ago, I was in a live theatrical production with a girl who worked for ADV. She told me I should audition for them. It took me about a year to heed her advice, but I did, and well, luckilly, they really liked me. I'm still there almost nine years later.

My advice to anybody trying to break in is several-fold: First, talent is something you're either born with or you aren't, period. If you have acting skills and a strong or unique voice, your next step, and the most important one, is to start acting. However, whenever, and wherever you can. Community theatre, school, improv troupes, stand-up comedy; all of these are great training grounds. From there, you have to live in one of the few cities that actually deals in anime dubbing: Houston, Dallas, NYC, Los Angeles are pretty much your options, unless you choose to live in Canada. Apart from that, have a lot of guts, a lot of heart, and a thick skin, and you'll be on your way.

AP 2. Of all the characters you have voiced, if you could be one for a day, which one and why?

CP: I would be Sasame from Pretear, just because I would love to be able to council and console people with as much aplomb as he possesses.

AP 3. Who is your favorite anime hero and villain?

CP: Favorite hero is probably... oh, I dunno... gosh... it's hard to not name somebody I've played, so I will :-) My favorite hero is Ayato from RahXephon, and my favorite villain is , duh, GREED from FMA.

AP 4. You’re a fan favorite at the Cons, what is the best part of the Cons for you?

CP: The best part of the con is getting to actually meet and connect with the fans on a one-to-one level, to really share some part of yourself with them, so that maybe they can get to know you on some sort of a huma level, instead of just as the voice of so-and-so.

AP 5. Is there anyone in the Animation business that you haven’t met yet, that you would like to meet?

CP: I have deep admiration for Seth MacFarlane ( of Family Guy ), and would just love to sit and talk with him for a while. As far as Anime industry goes, well.. man, I mean, I already know a lot of the coolest people in the business, so I'm really lucky.

AP 6. What current projects are you working on?

CP: A bunch, but that I can talk about: I'm playing Creed in Black Cat, Sho in Guyver, Ichiro in Nerima Daikon Brothers, Sousuke in Full Metal Panic: The Second Raid, and... hm, actually that's all I can talk about, whoops... I'll just say that I'm currently in eleven shows.

AP 7. I read that you’re an avid fan of Rollercoaster’s….do you have any idea how many you have ridden in your lifetime? Which ones are the scariest?

CP: I think I've ridden about 85. The scaries, best, most awesome roller coaster in existence, by far, is Superman: Ride of Steel at Six Flags New England. It owns you, I promise!

AP 8. I always like asking this question…..Right now, what music CD’s would we find in your CD player or maybe I should say what songs are on your MP3 player?

CP: Hm, that's tough, I'm kind of a music whore, just voraciously tearing through it every day. But here's some of what I'm rotating right now: The Best of My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult, Depeche Mode Live in Milan, Teenage Graffitti by The Pink Spiders, various trax by this band called The Knife, and anything by this 80s synthpop band called Heaven 17.

AP 9. You are in a band called PLID…..what does PLID stand for and what instrument do you play?

CP: Oh wow, well... you're right PLID is an acronym... but we don't talk abou what it stands for, mainly because nobody gets it... it's a very... esoteric joke... And mainly I sing and write lyrics for the band, though you will catch me occassionally playing behind one of the keyboards during a live show. OH, plug plug: PLID's myspace is www.myspace.com/plid ,and our new CD will be available on CD BABY and ITUNES in November, and it'll be called Dream Logic... end plug :-)

AP 10. Tell us something about Chris Patton, which you would like your fans to know?

CP: Chris Patton is a very open, ultra-sensitive, neurotic, humorous(hopefully) guy who takes his art very seriously and wears his heart on his sleeve. There, I think that should do it... and yes, it's the total truth.
