Chapter Two - Master

 

Scene 1

Ethan begins to the talks to the audience while an image of a blue sky appears.

EH= I mange to make it through that first night. Now, it was a question if I was going to make it threw a full day in a country that I had no knowledge of.

A view of the complex appears, then, switches over to focus on Ethan (age 7). Ethan (age 7) begins to come around, awakens, and then says this in his mind.

EH (age 7) (in his mind) = Man, what a night.

Lin then comes in the scene with a trey of breakfast.

LM= Good morning!

EH (age 7) (nervous) = Good morning, Ms. Masato.

LM= Please, call me Lin.

EH (age 7) = Ok….. (Looking at his breakfast) Huh? Uh…

Excuse me?

LM (before taking a bit) = Yes?

EH (age 7) = Not to be rude, what kind of food is this?

LM= Oh. It’s called Kuri. It’s a type of soup commonly eaten in Japan.

EH= Oh.

LM (smiling and eating) = Go on. Try it.

While the scene goes into freeze frame, Ethan begins to talk to the audience again.

EH= I don’t know about you all, but, what’s about to come up, wasn’t funny at all.

The Scene unfreeze, Ethan (age 7) takes a bit and then yells this.

EH (age 7) = Ah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Running to the bathroom) Ah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (Gets to the sink and gulps down water)

Lin heads to the bathroom to check on Ethan and finds him drinking water out of the sink. Lin then says this to Ethan.

LM= Oh, sorry. I should have told you.  It’s just a little bit spicy.

EH (age 7) = A little? (Gasping) It felt like a hot pepper. Never mind.

LM= Hmmm. Well, since you’re in here, why don’t you take a bath? It can cleanse your mind and soul.  End of scene.

Scene 2

Ethan (age 7) is in the bathtub, lying down, and then begins to speak in his mind.

EH (age 7) = Man, if I think this morning was bad, I can image what the day is going to be like. But, I have to omit, it hasn’t been as bad as I thought was going to be.

Ethan talks to the audience again.

EH= I so I thought. Like I said before, my life was a random series of events.

End of scene

 

Scene 3:

 Ethan (age 7) and Lin then head for the dojo. As they head down the street, they begin to conversant.

EH (age 7) = Uh… Lin?

LM= Yes?

EH (age 7) = Where are we going?

LM= Oh. Didn’t I tell you? We’re going to see your uncle at the dojo.

EH (age 7) = Oh. (In his mind) I just hope he isn’t rude. (Breathing in and out)

End of scene.

 

 

Scene 4

 

Ethan (age 7) and Lin arrive in front of the dojo. Lin then says this.

LM= Well, here we are. 

EH (age 7) (looking up at a large temple) = Is this it?

LM= Uh-huh. Come on. We better not keep your uncle waiting.

Ethan begins to talk to the audience.

EH= The anticipation for me was over, but, the steps up to the temple were a killer as well.

End of scene

 

 

Scene 5

Ethan (age 7) and Lin enter into the main hall of the temple and then the scene focusing for a while on a number of students doing drills. They get to a training area and then Lin says this to Ethan (age 7).

LM= Master said to leave you here. 

When Lin starts to walk out, Ethan says this.

EH (age 7) = Huh? Hey, wait! Are you leaving?

LM= you’ll be fine. I’ll be back before you know it.

EH (age 7) (sighs) = Just great.

While Ethan (age 7) was looking around, Ethan talks to the audience again.

EH= While I was in that room, I felt like fear was sneaking into me, slowly.

Then, in a confined room, Master and Shirow are in a conversation while looking at Ethan (age 7) threw a window.

S= Who’s that?

M= That it is your cousin from America.

S= That’s him? He doesn’t look like much.

M= Don’t underestimate him.

Master begins to make his way down to the room where Ethan (age 7) was in.

End of scene

 

Scene 6

Master gets down to the room where Ethan (age 7) was waiting in.

When he enters the room, he addresses Ethan (age 7).

M= Greetings. (Bowing in a weird way)

EH (age 7) (nervously) = Likewise. (Trying to bow) are you my uncle?

M= Yes, but, called me Master.

EH (age 7) = Ok…

M= Tell me your fighting skills.

EH (age 7) = What?

M= Again. Tell me your fighting skills.

EH (age 7) = I don’t have any, sir.

M= Why not you have any fighting skills in you?

EH (age 7) = I’m only 7, sir. Plus, I was never taught martial arts. I only see fighting on TV and I just do what the guys do on the television.

M= I see. Shirow!

Shirow comes down to the room where Master and Ethan (age 7) are at. He stands behind Ethan (age 7); Ethan (age 7) turns around, and then says this to Shirow.

EH (age 7) = Huh? (turning around) Oh, hi Shirow.

Shirow doesn’t reply.

EH (age 7) = Ok….

M= Ethan, you will fight Shirow.

EH (age 7) = What!?   

Master disappears.

End of scene

 

 

 

Scene 7

Ethan (age 7) tries to convince Shirow to not fight.

EH (age 7) = Listen, please, I don’t want to fight.

Shirow speaks

S= Stop being a coward.

EH (age 7) = What!?

S= You heard me.

While Shirow walks towards Ethan (age 7), Ethan (age 7) fearful walks back towards the wall.

S= Hit me as hard as you can.

While the scene keeps going, Ethan talks to the audience again.

EH= I rolled my right fist into a ball, the next thing I knew, I heard a loud noise, seeing Shirow fall to the ground.

Ethan (age 7) talks to Shirow.

EH (age 7) = Are you all right?

Shirow opens his eyes.

EH (age 7) = Huh?

Shirow kicks Ethan (age 7) right in the face and knocks him right to the ground. Shirow gets up and then heads towards Ethan (age 7).

S (looking down at Ethan) = Don’t cry. (Ethan tries to hold it in, but tears keep coming down his face)

Shirow then whispers something into Ethan’s (age 7) ear.

S= Here’s a little piece of advice: don’t let your guard down ever.  

EH (age 7) (getting up and with tears falling down his face) = Thanks for the advice.

Master reappears and then speaks.

Let the training begin.
