Chapter Nine - Condolences

Scene 1

The next day, Master had both Ethan and Shirow in his office to discuss the situation from the last chapter.

M= Listen, both of you, I know that there’s bad blood between you two. But, Shirow, you almost cost your team the match. What was going threw your mind? (Shirow doesn’t speak) Fine, don’t answer. And Ethan, why couldn’t you restrain yourself?

EH= My anger and aggression took over.

M= You of all people should know how to harness it. Gahhh! I’ve had enough of this propaganda. You two are going to settle this once and for all. One more time, you’re going to face each other. Only, the stakes have been raised to their fullest. The loser… will be… banish… from this dojo… forever.

Both EH and S= What?!

EH= Wait! Master! Can’t their-

M= Don’t question me! My decision is final. See you a week. Dismissed.

Ethan exits and Shirow begins to yell at master.

S (angry) = You can’t do this! You hear me?! This dojo is my home! You can’t do this, damn it!

M= Get the hell out of here.

S= What about the fact I’m your only son?!

M= I was banished at your age. I cope with it. You can too if you lose.

S= Damn it!

Then, Shirow throws an object at a light structure and exits.

End of scene.

Scene 2

Ethan is at home, sitting down on the floor, and then says this in his mind.

EH= Damn! I can’t even think. Father… Mother…

Then, all of a sudden, an ora of blue comes all around Ethan and then, he sees his father in a shadow –like reflection. Ethan then says this.

EH= Father…

Then, Ethan wakes up after he hears a door open. Ethan then says this in his mind.

EH= It was a hallucination or was it.

Lin then appears and begins to speak with Ethan.

LM= Hi.

EH= Hey.

LM= I heard about what happened.

EH= Yeah.

LM= What are going to do?

EH= What can I do? All I can do is comprehend the situation. There isn’t any other way. (Sighs) I’m calling it a day.

Ethan heads for his room and Lin then says this.

LM= Poor Ethan.

End of scene.

Scene 3

Ethan is asleep in his bed and then Hiroku appears. Hiroku snaps her fingers and They both disappear into the other world. When they reappear in the other world, Ethan is still asleep and Hiroku tries to play with his ears again. But, Ethan was ready this time.

EH= Ah ha! Counter! (He reverses her and plays with Hiroku’s ears)

HI= Hey!

Both stand up.

EH= I wasn’t fully asleep that time.

HI= Wow! You’re positive today!

EH= Well, I’m making an attempt to be. So, what’s the deal? Did you find out where the last half?

HI (Looking up) = It’s strange.

EH= Huh?

HI= It cannot sense it. No matter how hard I try. It’s like not in this world. I’m sorry.

EH= It’s all right. Take your time. (Sighs)

Ethan fells down, Hiroku notices, and says this.

HI= Ethan?

EH= What?

HI= Are you all right?

EH= No. I’m in a real dilemma in my real life.

HI= What do you mean?

EH= If I don’t beat my cousin in a match in one week. I’ll be kick out of the dojo… forever.

HI= Oh. Ethan. Don’t worry. I believe in you.

End of scene.

Scene 4

Three days until match.

Ethan is on his way home, paparazzi appears, and then, Ethan says this to the paparazzi.

EH= Will you obnoxious bastards leave me alone?! Go report some other propaganda!

The reporters’ disappears and then, fans appeared and followed Ethan. Ethan then says this to the fans after they pause.

EH= And you fans, let say me this… thank you. I thank you and leave with this one thought if I should fall to defeat: ‘Nobody stays at the top forever.”

Ethan leaves the fans in all and wonder and he continues walking.

Scene 5

Two days before match.

Ethan is sitting on the couch, thinking, and then, Lin appears.

LM= Hey.

EH= Hey.

LM (sitting on the couch with Ethan) = So, how’s everything?

EH= Nauseating.

LM= Let’s talk about something. Maybe, it will keep your mind at ease.

EH= Uh… Ok. (Thinks for a moment) You know, you’ve never told me about your family. Let’s talk about that.

LM (hesitant) = Oh… ok… Let me see... My mother was a hard worker and she did a lot for me. But, she passed away when I was 14.

EH= What about your father?

Lin starts to get emotional when she was asked that question. She clears her throat and says this.

LM= He… He…

EH= He what?

LM= He died when I was your age…

EH (In his mind) = Ironic.

LM (flashing back to when she was 18 and she was in front of her father’s grave) = My father was an honorable man. I just don’t understand why he was involved in something that cost him his life.  (Back to the present) After the incident, Master took me in. He and my father knew each other well. Master not only taught me how to defend myself, he taught me the fundamentals of life. Those fundamentals will come to fruition whither you lose or win. Remember it well…

Lin starts to cry.

LM= It just seems so ridiculous that you have to go threw all this. It’s so cruel.

Ethan then says to Lin while trying to comfort her.

EH= Don’t worry. I’ll still be here… in your heart. Thanks for being… a… mother to me.

Ethan and Lin then hug.  End of scene.

Scene 6

Shirow is in the training area, training as usual, and then, that same mysterious man appears and speaks to Shirow.

?= Hello again.

S= What do you want?

?= I have some information you may find… let’s just say very helping.

S= Is that all got for me?! Info! I should kill you for getting me into this damn predicament!

?= Relax; good things come to those who have patience. (The man pulls from behind him a black orb) Here is the power you seek.

The mysterious man hands the black orb to Shirow. Shirow holds the orb for awhile, the orb reacts, and a full embodiment begins.

After the embodiment, Shirow speaks to the man.

S= Now, what is this information?

Scene 7

The night before the match

Ethan walks into his home and he smells something.

EH=Huh? (Smells) Smells good.

Ethan heads for the dining room and sees a home cook meal, prepared and ready to eat, on the table. Min then appears and Ethan speaks to her.

EH= Min, did you do all this?

Mi= Uh-huh.

EH= Wow. What a miraculous change from take- out.

Mi (chuckling with please) = Well, let’s dig in.

Ethan and Min sit down and begin to eat. After the meal, Ethan and Min sit outside on a balcony and begin to conversant.

EH= I couldn’t eat another bit.

Mi (chuckling) = I’m glad you enjoy it. You know, I’ve been thinking…

EH= Thinking what?

Mi= About… my victory in the “X” match. I felt grateful at first, but, when I heard about your dilemma, I felt guilty.

EH= Why do you, Min?

Mi= Because, of the fact that could have been your greatest victory.

EH= It’s fine, Min.

Mi= No, it isn’t! If Shirow didn’t hit you and wasn’t in a state of shock, I could stop him and you could have gotten the win!

EH= It’s fine, Min. Really.

Mi= No! It isn’t! You should have won it! (Repeating) You should have won it! You should have-

Ethan hugs Min while she’s crying.

EH= Listen, there are more important things in life than wins or losses.

Ethan and Min hold each other, both look into each other eyes, and then, kiss romantically into the night.

Scene 8: The final student battle

 The scene focuses on outside the dojo. Then, it changes gears to the battle area. Ethan enters threw the left entrance and Shirow enters threw the right entrance. Both meet face-to-face in the center and bow to each other. Master then appears at a balcony, pauses for a moment, and then, speaks.

M= Begin!

Ethan and Shirow battle to the bitter end. Ethan actually gets split open in his head at one point. During the battle, Ethan says this in his mind.

EH= Where did get this kind of strength?

It ends with Shirow punching Ethan in the gut hard, sending him down to the mat, and Shirow sets up for his super kick. Shirow tries to connect, but, Ethan counters by powering him down to the mat and putting him in an arm and head submission called “the triangle hold.” Shirow tries to hold on, but, he notices arm is about to break and then, says this in his mind.

S= How is that possible? Especially, since I have that power. I have no choice.

Shirow finally taps out. Ethan collects himself and slowly made his exit of the battle area. Shirow leaves hurt and infuriated.

End of scene. 

Scene 9

From the bottom of the steps, Shirow looks back at the dojo and then, the mystery man appears again. Shirow speaks to him.

S= What kind of power did you give me?! Cause, it sure as hell didn’t help me!

?= It was a dud. The real power you seek I have. You’ll have to come with me to receive it.

S (thinks for a moment) = What do have to do now?
